GiraffeGuru Privacy Policy

GiraffeGuru is designed to keep your language-learning content private. Live audio, recordings, transcripts, translations, journal entries, saved words, and downloaded podcasts are processed or stored on your device. We do not require an account and we do not sell personal information.

Information that stays on your device

You control this content through the app and can delete recordings, downloaded episodes, or other saved material. Removing the app also removes its locally stored data, subject to normal device backup behavior.

Anonymous diagnostics

On first launch, GiraffeGuru asks whether you want to share anonymous diagnostics. This is optional and can be changed later in the app’s privacy settings.

If you opt in, we may receive crash data, performance measurements, app version, device model, iOS version, selected language identifiers, feature operation names, error domains and codes, and coarse timing measurements. These diagnostics are used only to operate and improve the app. They are not linked to your identity and do not include audio, transcripts, translations, journal entries, saved words, screenshots, advertising identifiers, or precise location.

Diagnostics are processed by Sentry on our behalf. GiraffeGuru disables screenshots, view hierarchies, network tracking, automatic interaction tracking, and default personal-information collection in its Sentry configuration. Stable installation identifiers and IP-based enrichment are removed or disabled before diagnostic events are sent.

Network connections and third-party services

GiraffeGuru uses Apple’s Speech and Translation frameworks for supported on-device recognition and translation. Apple may collect non-content API usage and performance information, such as app and language identifiers, but Apple states that original and translated content is not collected through the Translation API.

Podcast search, RSS feeds, artwork, and audio downloads come from third-party podcast publishers and hosting providers. When you use those features, your device connects directly to those services, which may receive ordinary network information such as your IP address and user-agent according to their own privacy policies.

Permissions

Microphone and speech-recognition permissions are used only when you start features that need them. GiraffeGuru does not use your microphone in the background without an active feature you initiated.

Children

GiraffeGuru is a general-audience language-learning app and is not directed specifically to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new update date.
